Aisa Mijeno

Born in 1986, Aisa Mijeno is a Filipino engineer and social entrepreneur best known for co-inventing the SALt Lamp (Sustainable Alternative Lighting), a lamp powered by saltwater. Born in 1986 in the Philippines, Mijeno studied engineering and later became interested in developing technologies that could improve the lives of people living in remote communities. Her inspiration came from observing island villages that lacked reliable access to electricity and depended on expensive kerosene lamps. The SALt Lamp can operate using a mixture of saltwater and an electrode, providing a safer and more sustainable source of light. Her invention gained international recognition and highlighted how engineering can be used to address social and environmental challenges. Beyond her work as an inventor, Mijeno advocates for innovation that benefits underserved populations. Her achievements demonstrate how STEM can create practical solutions for real-world problems while improving quality of life and promoting sustainable development.
