Design a STEM Solution to a Real Problem

What You’ll Need:

  • Paper or notebook

  • Pencil/pen

  • Optional: markers or digital drawing tools

Project Overview:
Use STEM thinking to design a creative solution to a real-world problem in your community.

Instructions:

  1. Think of a real problem you notice (examples: pollution, school stress, traffic, waste).

  2. Define the problem clearly:

    • Who does it affect?

    • Why is it important to solve?

  3. Brainstorm solutions:

    • Think about how STEM could help

    • Could you build something? Code something? Design something?

  4. Create your solution:

    • Draw a labeled diagram OR

    • Write a short explanation of how it works

  5. Answer these questions:

    • What is your solution?

    • How does it work?

    • Why would it help people?

  6. (Optional) Build a simple model or prototype using materials at home.

Challenge Extension:

  • Share your idea with someone and get feedback

  • Improve your design based on their suggestions
