Build the Strongest Paper Bridge

What You’ll Need:

  • 3–5 sheets of paper

  • Tape

  • Two stacks of books or cups (for supports)

  • Coins or small objects (for testing weight)

Project Overview:
Design a paper bridge that can hold as much weight as possible using only simple materials.

Instructions:

  1. Set up two supports (books or cups) about 6–8 inches apart.

  2. Your goal is to build a bridge that spans across the gap.

  3. Plan your design:

    • Think about how bridges stay strong

    • Try folding paper into shapes (like triangles or tubes)

  4. Build your bridge:

    • Use tape to secure your design

    • Make sure it sits evenly across both supports

  5. Test your bridge:

    • Slowly add coins or objects one at a time

    • Count how many it holds before collapsing

  6. Record your result and think about what worked or didn’t.

Challenge Extension:

  • Try a second design and compare results

  • Which shape holds the most weight and why?
