Dr. Fatmah Abdulrahman Baothman

The Saudi computer scientist Dr. Fatmah bint Omar Baothman was born in the city of Jeddah. She was a girl who carried an immense, deep-rooted passion for discovery and modern technologies from her earliest days, which propelled her toward academic excellence and paved her path to a scholarship in the United Kingdom. There, she stepped into the lecture halls of the University of Liverpool, braving the unknown to obtain her PhD in 2003—standing proud as the first woman in the Middle East to earn this elite degree in the complex specializations of Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, and Computer Speech Generation Systems.

Fatmah spent decades of her professional and academic life completely dedicated to developing software infrastructure and establishing scientific departments from the ground up. She played a historic, deeply human role by contributing fundamentally to founding the first computer science department for female students at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, opening the doors wide for thousands of dreaming girls. Throughout those years, she focused her mind on studying intelligent algorithmic systems, conducting precise, exhaustive research on linguistic engineering and artificial intelligence. She spent long, quiet hours of the night formulating programming equations and modeling the automated processing of the Arabic language to empower machines to understand human speech and analyze big data—driven by a mission to rescue technical systems from traditional methods and find advanced technological solutions that contribute to the growth of the digital economy, making everyone say to her in gratitude, "You are wonderful!"

In 2022, Fatmah's career expanded into a much broader global arena, coinciding with the massive boom in Artificial Intelligence. During this time, she poured her years of knowledge into publishing her prominent scientific textbook documenting AI algorithms, moving beyond pure theory to found leading technology companies and enterprises (such as Arqam AI Company). She was chosen to represent her country and region in major international technical and advisory forums, transforming in the eyes of the world into one of the most prominent technology experts globally.

Between 2022 and 2023, Fatmah earned elite international recognition, receiving the prestigious WBPS Award in London during the Global AI Summit for her supreme excellence and technical innovations. It was during this crowning moment that Fatmah solidified her place with a historic, legendary title: the first pioneer of Artificial Intelligence in the Arab world, and the ultimate inspiration who led the empowerment of women in the most complex, modern computational fields.

Her professional journey was an intense, practical mission of love and science; she transferred knowledge from academic theories into real-world software applications, selflessly supervising the training of thousands of students and tech enthusiasts. She participated in drafting strategic AI policies while building advanced technical partnerships with senior software engineers across the globe to compare and improve algorithmic efficiency. Her research focused deeply on studying Deep Learning techniques and big data analytics, opening completely new horizons for developing intelligent applications serving healthcare, education, and business. Furthermore, she established direct human and knowledge links through interactive seminars and conferences to plant the seeds of passion for innovation and the flight of the digital future in the minds of upcoming generations.

After achieving these continuous successes, Fatmah received high accolades for her contributions to raising the banner of science and digital innovation. By virtue of this incredible achievement, Fatmah did not just write her name as the first Arab woman to lead the AI revolution; she established a strategic pillar within the Kingdom’s vision for developing STEM fields and emerging technologies, becoming a living inspiration for all future minds, and proving to the entire world that the ambition of Arab and Saudi minds knows absolutely no impossible.
